Madden is a legend in sports, in general. He has a long list of lifetime accolades as an NFL coach, including guiding the Oakland Raiders to a championship win in the American Football League. Meanwhile, he guided the same organization to another win at Super Bowl XI in 1976 after the AFL merged with the National Football League. He retired from coaching two years later in 1978 and began a long as well as storied career as a color commentator.

For his efforts and contribution to the game, Madden was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2006, after which he retired from his work as a broadcaster in 2008.

Younger audiences will best remember Madden for playing a pivotal role in Electronic Arts’ simulation-style football game franchise. EA’s long-running franchise has used his name in its title ever since the first game for the MS-DOS was released back in 1988. To date, Madden NFL remains one of the most successful video games ever, spawning dozens of new installments as well as spin-offs.

In addition to lending his name to video games, Madden also lent his voice to different popular TV commercials for several American staples. Madden also has a handful of film and TV credits to his name.

TLDR; John Madden left an indelible legacy and he will forever be missed inside and outside of the sports industry.
