Jason Blum gives an update on The Invisible Man sequel

The Invisible Man is based on the 1897 novel written by H.G. Wells. In Well's original story, a scientist named Griffin experimented on himself and gave himself the ability to turn and become invisible by changing his body's refractive index. Leigh Whannell retells the classic horror tale where Griffin is an optics engineer and an abusive husband.

After his wife Cecilia drugs him and escapes, he apparently commits suicide and leaves her a huge inheritance. Afterward, strange things begin to happen to Cecilia and she begins to suspect that her husband faked his own death. She discovers that Griffin turned himself invisible using a body suit. Cecilia ends up obtaining a suit and getting her revenge on her husband.

Elizabeth Moss who plays Cecilia in the movie expressed interest in a follow-up movie. The actor revealed she is already exploring the possibility of a sequel for The Invisible Man.

"I can't really say much, but it's definitely not -- it's not necessarily in the rearview at all, but I do think that we have, with any sequel, you obviously want to make sure that you are doing the original justice," Moss said. "And so none of us involved have any intention of just cracking out another thing and throwing it up and just seeing what happens. We really want it to be as good, if not better, than the first one. Did I actually answer the question at all? It's not in the rearview. How's that?"

A spin-off movie titled The Invisible Woman is also in the works. Elizabeth Banks is set to star and direct the spin-off, billed as a screwball comedy rather than a sci-fi horror film. The Invisible Woman is based on the 1940 movie of the same name.

James Wan's current projects, M3GAN and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, will premiere on January 7 and December 25, respectively.
