James Gunn confirms Peacemaker season 2 is still in the works

Set in the aftermath of The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker follows an aggressively patriotic hitman named Christopher Smith who believes that peace must be achieved, irrespective of the cost. After his performance with The Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller retained him and forced him to team up with another ARGUS black ops squad tagged Project Butterfly, which is tasked with locating and eliminating parasitic butterfly-like creatures around the world.

Apart from John Cena, who starred as the titular character, Viola Davis also reprised her role from The Suicide Squad. The show also featured Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Clemson Mum, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.

Created for television by James Gunn, the show is a standalone spin-off of 2021's The Suicide Squad and the first television series in the DC Extended Universe. Gunn developed the show's script and also served as executive producer alongside Peter Safran, and Matt Miller, while Lars Winther, John J. Starke, and John Rickard served as producers.

By the way, Waller, based on Viola Davis's character of the same name from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season 1, is part of the DCU's Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters TV slate.

According to Gunn's previous comments, the show will pick up after the events of Peacemaker and bridge the gap between it and the show's second season. He further noted that the series will include a few characters from Peacemaker as regulars and also comprise a highly creative production team, including Doom Patrol creator, Jeremy Carver, and Watchmen co-writer, Christal Henry.

While Gunn's tweet confirms that Peacemaker season 2 will still happen, his confirmation of its postponement means it will take some time to arrive. At the moment, there is no information on the show's release date, cast, crew, and plot. However, as the studio moves ahead with its content plan for the near future, more information should come to light on the show.
