The insider, Brazil, sometimes referred to as Vergeben or Verge, is hinting at a new PS5 exclusive game in development by FromSoftware. This information, first revealed during a live stream and then further spread by Guaraná on ResetEra, has tickled the fantasies of PlayStation fans, drawing equal parts excitement and skepticism.
The insider suggests that FromSoftware is working on another exclusive title for the PlayStation 5 and it’s specifically a game designed to be more like a Soulsborne compared to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Elden Ring, and of course, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon.
Many are taking this as a sign that FromSoftware is working on a sequel to Bloodborne, or a spiritual successor.

However, this mysterious project, shrouded in secrecy, isn’t associated with any existing title. The conjecture regarding the nature of this exclusive raises the question of whether FromSoftware might defy past statements that downplay the studio’s interest in direct sequels, given Hidetaka Miyazaki’s preference for fresh worlds and original lore. Nonetheless, the murmurs of a sequel for either of the aforementioned games continue to circulate, fueled by unconfirmed reports of a Bloodborne movie in the works, suggesting that Sony might have broader ambitions for the IP that extend beyond the gaming universe.
It’s worth noting that FromSoftware has been rumored to be working on a different game for the past few years now. It isn’t clear yet if this is the same game rumored to have the codename “Spellbound” or “Velvet Veil.” However, it’s crucial to note that most if not all of these information, outside of the studio’s confirmed projects, are steeped in hearsay and conjecture. Nevertheless, the very notion of an unreleased FromSoftware project is exciting to think about, but it’s important to take a cautious approach until the official word surfaces.
The current scenario suggests that FromSoftware’s relationship with Sony is robust, especially following the tech giant’s investment in the studio’s mother company way back, which is further supported by the developer’s history of self-publishing in Japan and seeking global partners for wider release efforts. Furthermore, FromSoftware’s partnership with Sony is a safe, no-risk venture for both parties, proof of the strategic alliances and creative support that Sony has spent a little over three decades cultivating with several similarly-sized developers – a stark contrast to the more acquisition-focused approach of their industry counterpart, Microsoft.
As the rumor mill churns out endless possibilities – from a direct sequel to a past game to an entirely new IP – it’s clear whatever form this project takes, it will carry the weighty expectations set by FromSoftware’s track record. The studio’s previous successes have not only garnered a legion of devoted fans but also set a high bar for the genre that it created.
For the moment fans can look forward to four things: Shadow of the Erdtree, the so-far-only-confirmed expansion for Elden Ring; post-launch support for Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon; more Elden Ring; and, finally, possibly a closer gap between the release of Armored Core 6 and the next entry.
Speaking of Elden Ring, development on Shadow of the Erdtree is reportedly going smoothly. Finally, the size and scope of the said DLC is said to be half the base game.
