Insomniac Games warns gamers of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 spoilers

Now that review copies of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 are out in the wild, Insomniac Games has no control over whatever leaks from wherever.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the latest victim of the problematic trend of leaking sensitive information about upcoming games online.

For those wandering the digital streets of social media, there’s a gentle gust of whispers hinting at the next turn in the tale of Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

With the official debut of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 just a few breaths away, the intrigue is reaching fever pitch, do pardon the light humor. A tale so artfully crafted by Insomniac Games is on the brink of being partially unveiled, and not necessarily in the most artful of manners.

Spoilers are making their way online, and the gaming community… well, the reaction’s mixed.

Avid followers of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man know that the sequel’s story picks up following the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Here, players will shimmy and swing between both Peter and Miles, taking on formidable foes like Kraven the Hunter and the eerie extraterrestrial Venom symbiote. And while many might be tickled pink with anticipation, there’s a grander issue to tackle: the thorny subject of spoilers.

Those fresh on the gaming scene might wonder: Why the hullabaloo over a few leaks? To some, diving in blind is part of the gaming experience. They relish every plot twist, savoring every surprise as if biting into a gourmet chocolate truffle, as if for the first time. There’s undeniable allure in discovering the narrative beat by beat, and it’s one many prefer not to tarnish with the premature revelations of a spoiler.

Yet, in stark contrast, we have a league of enthusiasts who practically froth at the mouth for early details. They’re the ones likely to say, “Spoilers? Bring them on!” One might even argue they find the taste of a spoiled plot point as sweet as the aforementioned truffle. In some cases, the spoilers get them more hyped – they enjoy the story or gameplay of something more when they’re told about it beforehand.

If we’re being honest, the games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 don’t need reviews to sell.

Insomniac Games, of course, holds a clear stance. As the craftsmen behind this upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive, their tweet is but a gentle plea: “We worked hard to craft a story PACKED with surprises, so tread carefully and be mindful of posting spoilers.” Yet, despite this earnest request, potential spoiler tidbits, especially around in-game achievements, are making rounds. In fact, you might want to cast a cautious eye over the trophy lists at TrueTrophies, unless you have an unquenchable thirst for spoiler content.

Interestingly, a digital pat on the back goes to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s not-so-simple dynamic start screen that morphs based on a player’s progress in the main storyline. While many won’t blink an eye at this, others will find a charming novelty in this feature, adding yet another layer to the experience.

But here’s the bottom line, to use sophisticated words in a casual manner: To each their own.

Sony should call Kraven the Hunter to hunt down all those leaking info about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

As Peter Parker and Miles Morales suit up for the game’s official release on October 20, the ball is in the player’s court. Whether you’re eagerly avoiding spoilers to dive into the narrative fresh or feverishly searching for every tiny morsel of detail, remember: at the end of the day, it’s about the joy of the journey. And, speaking of journeys, while we all wait, it’s an opportune moment to revisit Marvel’s Spider-Man or get a quick refresher with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The last we heard, you can choose one or the other (among a handful of more) as a freebie if you buy a new PlayStation 5 between now and October 20.
