Capcom, renowned for the Resident Evil franchise, hasn’t officially announced new entries in the franchise. However, many leaks and rumors are suggesting that the company is actively working on multiple Resident Evil projects. The prominent leaker, known as Dusk Golem, is stirring the community by claiming that the Japanese gaming giant has as many as five Resident Evil games in various stages of development.
Among these, “multiple” titles have reportedly been greenlit last year, with “some” of these being remakes of beloved classics from the survival horror series.
The speculation doesn’t end there. Dusk Golem suggests that one of the anticipated titles is Resident Evil 9, rumored to be ready for its announcement later this year with a 2025 release window. Considering the game has been under development since as early as 2018, it’s not one of the newly greenlit projects. The focus, however, is significantly on the remakes.

There’s a strong presumption among fans that Resident Evil 5 might see a modern version soon. Yet, fans are also hopeful for a remake of Code – Veronica, a title that has been highly requested due to its unique place in the Resident Evil lore.
Capcom’s previous successes with remakes, notably Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, have set a high bar. The latter’s success, in particular, is fueling the speculation that Capcom wants to continue down this path. Fans have expressed a desire for remakes that retain the essence of the originals while adapting them to modern gameplay standards. For example, the idea of revisiting the daytime horror promised by Resident Evil 5 ahead of its official release, with mobs of menacing foes in broad daylight, is particularly enticing for those who appreciated the brighter atmosphere and action-packed gameplay by the latter entries of the series.
There’s also a significant call for returning to the series’ roots with a remake of Resident Evil, which introduced players to the iconic Spencer Mansion. After the re-introduction of Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil 4 remake, there’s a logical narrative push towards remaking both Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica to ensure coherence in the story for newcomers experiencing the series through its modern iterations.
After all, how could Capcom expect newer fans of the franchise to care about Chris Redfield finally getting his revenge on Albert Wesker when they know little of what he did to the original STARS members and his sister, Claire Redfield.
The anticipation for the remakes extends beyond mere nostalgia. Fans are eager to see how Capcom leverages its RE Engine to breathe new life into these classics, enhancing the horror elements and gameplay for the current generation. While some players have voiced concerns about maintaining the original games’ spirit, the consensus leans towards excitement at the prospect of experiencing updated versions of these beloved titles.
With Capcom’s history of successfully revitalizing its classic games, the prospects of multiple Resident Evil remakes leaves fans hopeful for a more nightmare-fuel-filled future for the series.
