Exciting news for fans of animated storytelling! Inside Out 2 is on the horizon, and the much-anticipated sequel to Disney’s 2015 hit is set to grace theaters in the summer of 2024. To offer fans a tantalizing glimpse into the upcoming cinematic adventure, Disney has released a teaser trailer.

Unveiled on November 9, the trailer unfolds with the beloved protagonist, Riley, immersed in the joy of her family life. However, this idyllic phase takes an unexpected turn when Riley reaches the tender age of 13. Her emotions, basic until this moment with Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear, are about to get complicated.

The teaser sets the stage for what promises to be a compelling exploration of emotions in the much-anticipated sequel, Inside Out 2. Fans are introduced to the unfolding story when, post her birthday, a demolition crew unexpectedly infiltrates headquarters, leaving Riley’s emotions in a state of bewilderment.

When the crew clears out, Riley’s emotions find out their ranks have expanded and they have gained a new member – Anxiety.

Upon introducing herself to the other emotions, she remarks, “We wanted to make a good impression,” hinting that additional emotions are on the horizon. Anxiety’s words echo suspicions raised by Inside Out 2’s latest poster. Aside from the familiar five emotions, the poster showcases four new ones seemingly emerging from what appears to be Riley’s subconscious.

Given Riley’s transition into her teen years, the upgrade to her emotions panel is understandable. Although Disney hasn’t officially disclosed the names of the new emotions, excluding Anxiety, hints emerge in the final moments of the trailer.

After listing Riley’s already familiar emotions – Good, Sad, Angry, Afraid, Disgusted, and the newly introduced Anxious, it also listed three entirely new ones – Envious, Ennui, and Embarrassed, implying they will round up Riley’s updated emotions palette.

Inside Out 2 will feature Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black reprising their roles as Joy, Sadness, and Anger, respectively. Unfortunately, Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling won’t return as Fear and Disgust due to a pay dispute. Tony Hale and Liza Lapira will step in to replace them.

Maya Hawke, renowned for her role as Robin Buckley in Stranger Things, lends her voice to Anxiety. As of now, Disney hasn’t disclosed the actors portraying the three new characters, but expectations are that this information will be revealed closer to the film’s release.

Beyond Inside Out, Disney is reportedly exploring new ventures within their other animated properties. Jennifer Lee, the company’s Chief Creative Director, recently revealed progress on a third installment of the Frozen franchise. Additionally, producer Yvett Merino hinted at plans to expand Encanto into its own franchise.

If these plans pan out, fans of Disney animations have a great couple of years to look forward to.

Inside Out 2 will arrive in theaters on June 14, 2024.
