The highly-anticipated action role-playing game, Diablo 4, might no longer arrive on its scheduled release date, as per a reliable industry insider.
Horns, a ResetEra user who correctly called Hi-Fi Rush’s shadow drop launch earlier this week, is the one behind this rumor. The leaker made a series of claims about multiple high-profile titles scheduled for 2023 releases. On Diablo 4, Horns stated that the game is still in rough shape and, as a result, might not arrive in June.
The ResetEra user also stated that due to Microsoft’s losses this year, the company is considering releasing Starfield early. Horns claimed that Redfall, which currently has a release date of May 2, 2023, is also in a rough shape, albeit one that is better than Starfield. He implied the title will arrive as planned. However, he warned that if Microsoft has its way and Bethesda publishes Starfield early, it will have many issues.
Diablo 4’s June 6 release has always been doubtful. Last December, it was reported that Blizzard will have to “crunch” to meet the game’s set deadline. It’s possible things have gotten worse since and Blizzard had to push back the launch date of the game.
Nevertheless, readers should take the leaker’s claims with a pinch of salt. For one, the social media user did not provide any source for his claims. Secondly, the gaming industry is fast-paced and new developments could quickly render what Horns is saying obsolete, even if they are authentic.
Blizzard has spent several years, if not a decade or longer, working on Diablo 4. It was officially unveiled at BlizzCon 2019. At the time, it was initially slated to release last December. Blizzard has since shifted the game’s launch twice to finally arrive at its current date.
Much like the previous installments, Diablo 4 will see players as characters caught in a war between angels and demons. Its official description reads:
The endless battle between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells rages on as chaos threatens to consume Sanctuary. With ceaseless demons to slaughter, countless abilities to master, nightmarish dungeons, and legendary loot, this vast, open world brings the promise of adventure and devastation. Survive and conquer darkness, or succumb to the shadows.
Fans of the action role-playing franchise were discouraged by the volume of microtransactions in Diablo Immortal. Blizzard promised that, although Diablo 4 will have some microtransactions, it won’t have the same problems that Diablo Immortal had.
