It's been three years since HBO's live-action adaptation of George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, ended. Although HBO has since promised to release spin-offs based on the fantastic world of Westeros, none has yet to air - until now.
According to Martin, the first Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, will get a release date soon.
In a recent blog post, Martin had a lot to share about his future works and others that he is looking forward to before briefly touching on the status of House of the Dragon. Martin singled out Amazon Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is coming in September while adding that HBO will reveal the release date for House of the Dragon soon.
Also, for those who are wondering, Martin knows that fans are waiting for The Winds of Winter.
House of the Dragon will explore the unseen history of the Targaryens before their rise and fall in Westeros. The upcoming HBO series will open during the reign of Paddy Considine's King Viserys I and lead up to the Targaryen civil war, otherwise known as the Dance of the Dragons. Other plot details regarding House of the Dragon remain under wraps but it will reportedly be based on the second half of the first volume of the Fire & Blood novel.
