We’ve got good news for PC gamers on a budget, Horizon Forbidden West, known for its stunning visuals and captivating story, is coming to desktops on March 21 and it will offer a range of system requirements to cater to different hardware configurations, including budget-oriented builds.

Developed by Guerrilla Games and ported to PC by Nixxes Software, known for their PC optimization expertise, Horizon Forbidden West aims to be an inclusive title playable on a wider range of machines.

Here’s a breakdown of the system requirements for Horizon Forbidden West on PC:

  • Minimum: This setting targets 720p resolution at 30 FPS with the “Very Low” preset. You’ll need an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X processor, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 or AMD Radeon RX 5500XT graphics card. This is great news for budget-conscious gamers who still want to experience the world of Horizon Forbidden West.
  • Recommended: This setting aims for 1080p resolution at 60 FPS with the “Medium” preset. The recommended specs include an Intel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 graphics card. This setup offers a good balance between performance and affordability.
  • High: This setting targets 1440p resolution at 60 FPS or 4K resolution at 30 FPS with the “High” preset. Here, the requirements jump to an Intel Core i7-9700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 graphics card.
  • Very High: This setting aims for 4K resolution at 60 FPS with the “Very High” preset. This demands the most powerful hardware, requiring an Intel Core i7-11700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 or AMD Radeon RX 7900XT graphics card.

With the Nvidia GTX 1650 and AMD Radeon RX 5500XT retailing for roughly $160, you’ll be able to get away with playing Horizon Forbidden West without upgrading your PC, unlike with Alan Wake 2, provided that you’re willing to make certain compromises.

But if you do have to upgrade, you’ll want to set aside roughly $100 for an SSD. Horizon Forbidden West‘s developers emphasize the importance of an SSD for a smoother and better experience, addressing concerns raised with the PC port of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart last year, where the absence of an SSD led to subpar gameplay.

It’s important to note that these are just recommendations. You may achieve playable frame rates with slightly lower specifications. Additionally, Horizon Forbidden West will support Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technology, which can significantly boost performance for those with compatible hardware.

Horizon Forbidden West is the latest PlayStation exclusive to be available on PCs. After the recent statement by Sony Chairman Hiroki Totoki, fans can look forward to seeing more ports going forward. In fact, it’s believed that the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima will be revealed soon.
