Helldivers 2 Increases Server Cap To 800,000 Following Third Straight Busy Weekend

More freedom fighters can finally join the cause as Arrowhead Game Studios has increased Helldivers 2's server capacity to nearly one million.

This should guarantee that Helldivers 2 will break the 500,000 mark if not higher on Steam soon.

Watch out Automatons and Terminids across the universe, democracy is getting some much-needed reinforcements as Arrowhead Game Studios just increased Helldivers 2‘s server cap to allow up to 800,000 concurrent users.

But while this is a cause for some much-needed optimism, recent history suggests that the fight for liberty will draw yet another server-breaking crowd over the next few days. Nevertheless, the studio’s CEO seem proud of the work they’ve put in lately, especially given the studio’s size.

“We expect the @helldivers2 servers to hit the 800,000 CCU max capacity,” Arrowhead CEO and game director Johan Pielstedt revealed on X. “There might be light queues to get in at peak,” adds Pilestedt before giving his team a much-needed pat in the back.

While Pilestedt never fully revealed the initial numbers, it’s believed that Helldivers 2 launched with an initial server capacity of less than 100,000, which has been gradually increased over time. As player demands continued to rise, players could do nothing but wait in line. According to Pilestedt, this isn’t a problem that can be so easily solved by simply paying for more server capacity.

Heading into its third weekend, Arrowhead had already increased Helldivers 2‘s server capacity to 700,000 while releasing a new patch that addresses several of the game’s ongoing issues.

The latest server capacity upgrade for Helldivers 2, which should be live as of the time of writing, didn’t come with patch notes. Arrowhead is probably expecting the next few days to be full of sleepless nights as the champions of liberty eagerly jump in to free the universe from Terminid and Automaton scum, forcing the studio to increase server capacity yet again, if it already hasn’t. Although it seems like the servers didn’t buckle as much during this weekend than before, as per a more recent tweet from Pilestedt.

With that said, if you’re hit by a heavy dose of FOMO but waiting patiently in line isn’t more up to your speed, Pilestedt has some sound advice for you.

Helldivers 2 is the first of Sony’s massive live-service plans and it’s safe to say that things have gone well. Unfortunately, despite its popularity, it isn’t expected to arrive on Xbox anytime soon if at all but the Game Pass isn’t entirely out of the question.
