This year's Xbox Games Showcase has arguably been the best digital showcase so far, and part of the reason for this is the revelation of the release window of Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2.
After a long period of conjecture and fan speculation, we finally know that the Norse-inspired action game is coming out on the Xbox Series S and X as well as the PC next year.
First announced in 2019 during the Game Awards, details about the highly anticipated sequel from Ninja Theory has only recently begun to emerge from the shadows. Earlier this year, fans were treated to a brief glimpse of gameplay footage that had showcased an impressive level of visual fidelity that hints at the technological leaps we can expect from the current-gen exclusive game.
The recent Xbox Games Showcase offered a further tantalizing look into Hellblade 2. A new clip showed the game's titular protagonist, Senua, venturing within a mysterious cave and engaging with seemingly ethereal entities, a narrative choice that blurs the boundaries of reality. As with the original game, the sequel leaves us in a constant state of questioning what is "real" and what is not.
Despite its release still being some way off, Hellblade 2 is already shrouded in intrigue and unanswered questions. Ninja Theory has remained tight-lipped on the sequel's narrative specifics, revealing only that the game will continue its heavy reliance on Norse mythology, and will remain centered around Senua's character.
