The first Halo Infinite technical preview is not off to a good start

It's impossible to downplay the significance of the first Halo Infinite technical preview. Because it is the first public large-scale test of the game, 343 will want to leave a good impression on eager fans ahead of the game's release date later this year.

Unfortunately, preventable server issues are currently making it difficult for players to enjoy their first hands-on opportunity to play Halo Infinite.

As of the time of this writing, the tech preview is already live. However, according to 343 Industries Community Director, Brian Jarrard, the game is still far from running smoothly.

As per his latest tweet (linked above), everyone who should have received an invite and code for the technical preview still hasn't gotten theirs yet. Meanwhile, those that did get their invite haven't exactly been able to log into the game.

Obviously, fans are displeased. In his earlier tweet, Brian explained that this is the first technical preview of its scale that 343 Industries has ever done, so issues were to be expected.

On the other hand, Brian's statement is pretty self-contradictory. If such problems were expected, 343 should have prepared for the huge influx of players better. Halo Infinite is one of the biggest games to release this year. It deserves a technical preview with minimal to no hiccups.

If it's any consolation, there is some limited player feedback for Halo Infinite from those that have managed to get in. One of the most common complaints among players is a lack of optimization, especially on the PC. The game seems to take much more resources than its graphic entails. However, despite performance issues and taking more than a few minutes just for a chance to log in, most seem to have enjoyed their limited time during the technical preview thus far.

Here's to hoping that 343 can weather through the storm. The studio needs to gather as much player feedback as possible from this flight test to ensure that Halo Infinite delivers.
