Plenty can happen in five years, except, maybe, when you're Rockstar Games. Where most companies have released at least 2-3 AAA games during that span, Rockstar is content with a single launch and surrounding it with robust support via post-launch content and other "smaller" projects like remasters. But, you can't exactly fault Rockstar for approaching video game development like this.
In true "quality over quantity" fashion, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are two of the best-selling and most iconic games in gaming history. But, while these two hits share similar developers, their graphics couldn't be any more different. Despite getting a remaster for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, GTA 5 looks at least two console generations behind when compared to its open-world wester cousin. In contrast, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a deceptive game that anyone could easily mistake for a next-gen title.
With such a jump in graphical fidelity between the two games that are released just five years apart from each other, is a similar improvement expected from RDR2 and GTA 6? The answer is "yes", if you ask Rockstar Mag.
