The PlayStation 4 is dead. Sony made it “official” earlier this year when it stopped reporting the unit sales of the PS4. But, there are still a handful of games coming out for the fourth-best-selling video game console in history.
Case in point, God of War: Ragnarok. Although there were initial fears that forcing Santa Monica Studio to support the older console would be a burden on God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West proved that this isn’t the case. But, while Kratos’ latest outing doesn’t look half-bad on the PS4, the added strain on the aging console will make it sound like it’s crying for help.
According to GameSpot, God of War: Ragnarok will force your PS4 to run extremely loud. It specifically uses the sound of a jet engine to compare, and it’s on point.

The deafening noise of a PlayStation 4 that sounds like it’s about to break aside, God of War: Ragnarok looks and runs incredibly well on the older console. Multiple publications tested the game running at a steady 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second, which is amazing, all things considered. Even if the best way to enjoy the latest God of War title is on a PS5, you don’t need to force yourself to get your hands on one to play the game.
Having said that, we do at least recommend keeping your PS4 clean and free of dust as well as debris when you’re playing God of War: Ragnarok. We can only assume the noise comes with an appropriate amount of heat. Keeping your PS4 well-ventilated, especially when you are playing God of War: Ragnarok, should prevent overheating.
We should know more for sure about how God of War: Ragnarok runs on a PS4 and PS4 Pro when it launches on November 9.
Until then, you can read the reviews as you prepare to invest in a pair of headphones or earplugs. Also, make sure to let everyone know around the house that all is fine if they hear a jet engine whenever you boot God of War: Ragnarok. Better yet, get a PS5 if your budget permits. Shipments of the latest flagship console by Sony are up from last year, at least in the United States.
