'Glass Onion' Cast and Director discuss Muppets crossover

Here's what director Rian Johnson had to say about the idea in December when speaking with TUDUM: It's a joke that I thought was pretty brilliant, and I ended up really giving [it] some serious thought. As much as I take the murder mystery genre seriously, I take the genre of a Muppet movie seriously... I think those two things have very different rules. You can either have a Benoit Blanc mystery that has Muppets in it, but they'll feel out of place. Or you can have a Muppet movie that Benoit Blanc is in, but it'll feel like a Muppet movie. "I wouldn't want to compromise either of them.

And I feel like in order to make it well and make it work, you'd have to make a choice and compromise one or the other. If I ever make a Muppet movie, I just want to make a great Muppet movie. Can you imagine the charismatic Blanc in a Puppets movie?

The issue that rears its head here is that the Knives Out sequels are owned by Netflix after the original movie was published by Lionsgate under Disney. The Muppets are also part of Disney's library, so there is common ground on which a deal could happen. Even if it ends up exclusively on Disney+ as compensation for using Muppet characters, it will still be fun to see Kermit and Miss Piggy in some stunning fashion wear as a murder mystery unfolds. Much was made out of the cast's outfit choices even in the fan questions video, but you can't argue with the results.

With a 93% audience and critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film's director is thinking of ideas for the next sequel. While he previously stated that he'll start the writing process after the New Year comes, fans are wondering if his promise to subvert the previous two installments means a Puppets spinoff is on its way.
