‘Through the Looking Glass’ is a hidden world quest in Genshin Impact, which is easy for you to overlook if you haven’t been focusing on the world around you as you progress through the main world quests of Fontaine.
Quest Explanation
In the ‘Through the Looking Glass’ world quest, you must “collect” six purple glowing mirrors scattered in the new Morte Region of Fontaine. Whenever you find a purple glowing mirror, you can interact with it to go through it and enter a small room.
The room can either contain a small puzzle or some enemies you must defeat. You will also find a floating goldfish inside these rooms. When you solve a puzzle or defeat the enemies, the goldfish will swim through a mirror that shows a sunflower.
If you’ve completed The Book of Esoteric World quest, you will remember that sunflower from it as you come across it in the ‘???’ location. This is the same location you visit by meditating using the enigmatic pages at the Merusea Village, where Canotila is.
In this guide, we’ve discussed the locations of all six purple glowing mirrors and their relevant puzzle solutions. The actual quest is initiated once you’ve collected the sixth mirror. Note that you can collect these mirrors in any order.
Quest Pre-requirements
To unlock ‘Through the Looking Glass’ world quest, you must complete the following quests:
Looking Glass Location 1
The first mirror is inside the underwater ruins, Orthant of Memory, located north of the Tower of Ipsissimus. You can teleport to the underwater teleport waypoint to directly get to the entrance of the ruins.
Keep swimming deeper into the ruins until you reach the open room with an energy machine in the middle.
You will know about this machine if you’ve completed the ‘In The Wake of Narcissus‘ world quest.
Once inside the open room, you will find a water barrier to the west (to your right) through which sits your first purple glowing mirror.
When you’re through, some riftwolves will spawn. Take them out, and you will notice that the floating goldfish has now flown through the mirror with the sunflower.
You can exit the room by going through the purple glowing mirror.
Looking Glass Location 2
The second mirror is inside the underwater ruins known as the Orthant of Souls. Once again, you can use the underwater teleport waypoint to get to the location if you’ve completed the prerequisite quest.
Go deeper into the ruins and jump to your left to get to the room with another energy machine.
When you get to the central room with the energy machine, turn left (west), and you will find a glowing purple mirror on the wall in the corridor.
When you go through the mirror, you will find several torches and a floating goldfish in the middle of the room.
Use a Hydro character to extinguish all the torches except the one by the mirror with the sunflower.
The torches by the sunflower mirror would be extinguished by default.
Once lit, the goldfish will fly through the sunflower mirror and disappear.
Looking Glass Location 3
The third mirror is also inside one of the Orthants, the Orthant of Wishes. This is why it is important that you finish the pre-required quest, In The Wake of Narcissus, to unlock all these teleport waypoints and locations.
Go through the main entrance, and you will come into a room with the laser puzzle and a glowing purple mirror resting by the elevator.
Defeat the Rifthound and open the remarkable chest to send the goldfish through the sunflower mirror.
Exit the room using the purple mirror.
Looking Glass Location 4
Luckily, the fourth mirror is also deeper underground in this same Orthant location.
When you exit the room using the glowing purple mirror, jump down and take the elevator to go deeper underground.
Keep going deeper into the ruins until you reach the central room with an energy machine in the middle.
Continue going straight (west) after passing the machine and take the lift machine to the lower level.
Once you’re down, you will see another energy machine and a glowing purple mirror just past this machine.
Go through the mirror and fight off the riftwolves. Once the riftwolves are eliminated, the goldfish will fly into the sunflower mirror.
Exit the room using the glowing purple mirror. When you’re out of the room, you will be stuck behind a barrier you can unlock by simply opening up a remarkable chest that will spawn to your left.
Looking Glass Location 5
The fifth mirror is inside the Orthant of Persona ruins located underwater south of the Tower of Ipsissimus.
Go through the water barrier and deeper into the ruins until you come across your first room with the energy machine.
You will be met with another Rifthound when you’re through the mirror.
After defeating the Rifthound, open the exquisite chest to release the goldfish and let it fly into the sunflower mirror.
Looking Glass Location 6
The sixth and final mirror is inside the Tower of Ipsissimus. The tower should be submerged underwater if you’ve completed the ‘In The Wake of Narcissus‘ world quest.
Swim to the tower’s lower level, and you will find an entrance to go inside the tower.
Grab the nearest Xenochromatic Hunter’s Ray ability and defeat the guarding Meka around the entrance.
When you’re inside the tower, do not go straight. Turn left (south direction on the map), and you will find the purple glowing mirror on the wall.
When you go through the mirror, you will notice a yellow-colored translucent barrier in the middle of the room.
It is quite simple to get to the chest.
The final goldfish will go through the sunflower mirror when you open this chest.
This indicates that you can now go through the sunflower mirror. When you complete the final mirror, the ‘Through the Looking Glass’ quest will also automatically initiate.
Through the Looking Glass
Interact with the purple glowing sunflower mirror to go through it.
When you’re through, you will reach ‘???,’ a location familiar to those of you who’ve completed ‘The Book of Esoteric Revelations‘ world quest.
You will find Canotila here. Talk to her to return to ‘A Very Warm Place’ at the Merusea Village.
Once you’ve return to ‘A Very Warm Place’ the ‘Through the Looking Glass’ quest concludes.
Once you’ve completed this quest, skip two in-game days to get the first follow up quest.
After the completion of the first follow up quest, you can skip 2 in-game days once again to get the final follow up quest which will conclude this quest series.
