GameStop Offers Cheaper Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Alternative

Without any prior announcement, Sony just doubled Horizon Zero Dawn's price, but GameStop has a workaround.

You can get Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for lower than half of its retail price, thanks to GameStop.

Horizon Zero Dawn was one of sony’s best-selling games on the PlayStation 4 and was later repackaged under its “PlayStation Hits” label for $19.99, which included its only post-launch DLC, The Frozen Wilds. So, you can only imagine the surprise when everyone found out that Sony had literally doubled the price of the same game, which now costs $39.99.

While it’s understandable that Sony is doing this to close off a loophole that would allow gamers to buy Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for a lower price, GameStop is reminding everyone that Sony can only do so much.

“If only there was a place to purchase the game outside of Sony’s grasp…,” tweeted GameStop on X, which, in case you didn’t know, is a subtle hint of what to do if you’re looking to buy Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered at a discount.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered might not be the first “unnecessary” remaster Sony will release.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was part of Sony’s latest State of Play presentation, during which it revealed several of its upcoming titles, including free updates for Astro Bot and Stellar Blade and the upcoming sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei, which is coming out next year.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered already got plenty of flack ahead of its reveal as the info was leaked ahead of time, with Sony also reportedly going to announce a PS5 remaster of Days Gone. Bend Studio’s latest title hasn’t gotten a remaster yet, but the point remains: what’s the point of Sony re-releasing a game that it didn’t need to and at a much higher price point?

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered sells for $499.99 on the PlayStation Store, Steam, or Epic Game Store, but those who already bought Horizon Zero Dawn on PlayStation 4 will only need to pay $9.99 to get the upgrade. Sony is at least mitigating some of the backlash by allowing those who got the game for free as part of the Play at Home initiative a few years ago to upgrade at a lower cost. However, doubling the price of a PS4 title for no apparent reason than to prevent a loophole still feels pretty sinister, to be honest.

Thankfully, GameStop has come to the rescue, reminding everyone that it sells pre-owned copes of Horizon Zero Dawn at $10 or less.

So if you’re interested in getting Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for $20, all you need to do is head over to your local GameStop and get your copy.

Of course, if you’d been following us all these years already, you’d have secured your copy for free already. But, hey, it is what it is.

In other news, California is cracking down on digital storefronts and forcing them to stop using the words “buy” and “purchase” when, in fact, all they do is just grant users a revocable license to access games digitally. Finally, Ubisoft finds itself on life support, hoping that delaying Assassin’s Creed Shadows to a later date to release a more polished version of the product can help save the company.
