All good things must come to an end. But, in Universal Pictures’ case, the conclusion won’t happen until things get more absurd and explosive than ever.
Fast X marks the tenth mainline installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, which will lead directly into the supposedly final mainline film that premieres sometime in 2025.
Each sequel in the franchise has been marked with a proper evolution of everything that preceded it. After Vin Diesel’s Dominic Torreto starts things off by feuding with the local Chinese mafia over a couple of DVD players, Torreto must now face off against the vengeful son of a drug kingpin who’s out for blood.
Jason Momoa’s performance has been described as one of the highlights of a film full of action.
As a handful of viewers got a chance to preview Fast X before everyone else can on May 19, here’s a round-up of all their reactions:
Caught #FastX last week! It’s a wild, non-stop action thrill ride that delivers the most shocking ending of the franchise, so far. Not perfect (end may divide fans), but it’s been growing on me & I can’t wait to see it again. Universal's def trying to make this its Infinity War. pic.twitter.com/0EWbLNezOi

#FastX is the worst Fast yet. Yes, including [insert your least fave here]. The action is fun but it's the 1st film to not up the ante from the last one & the trademark notion of "Family" is an afterthought.
But! Jason Momoa is God-Level in it and worth the price of admission. pic.twitter.com/zYdDFwSg0T

#FastX is an entertaining thrill ride. It’s a visual spectacle with some truly incredible stunts and some wildly outrageous moments you’d expect from the Fast franchise, but what Jason Momoa brings to the film as Dante is magic! His performance oozes charisma. pic.twitter.com/UjOlR77aEF

#FastX belongs to Jason Momoa and his decadent bad guy, Dante Reyes. Fierce and flamboyant, his perilous peacocking adds a sharp edge and some refreshing dark humor. The rest is ludicrousness with clunky elements but it is stupidly entertaining. What the Fast were you expecting? pic.twitter.com/9Xeuj2In7z

#FastX is utterly ridiculous (I loved every second). Action sequences and one-liners left my face hurting from smiling so much. Momoa is hilarious. Ensemble rocks. Cinema? Please. Peak summer blockbuster? Hell yes. Built for a popcorn-filled big screen experience. @ComicBook pic.twitter.com/5XWLT4daQO

Fast X gets the Fast & Furious series back on track, and reason #1 is Jason Momoa, who plays Dante like F&F's version of The Joker. He's a gleeful psychopath, and it's delightful. Along with a story that avoids what made Fate Of The Furious and F9 feel stale, it's a win. #FastX pic.twitter.com/fgZy6gjYTR

The Fast and Furious franchise survived the loss of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his character, Luke Hobbs. But, it’s clear that, for the series to get the end that it deserves, it needed someone who could fill in the void left by The Rock.
Enter, Jason Momoa.
Everyone who’s seen Fast X will tell you that Momoa is one of the biggest reasons why Fast X is the best film in the series in a while if not ever.
It certainly feels like Universal Pictures has pulled out all the stops and given us a straightforward villain who wants nothing but to put a bullet through Torreto’s head for what he did to his family.
Fast X brings back a handful of your favorite characters like Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Han (Sung Kang), Mia (Jordana Brewster), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel). We even see new faces like Aimes (Alan Ritchson), Tess (Brie Larson), Isabel (Daniela Melchior), and Dom and Mia’s Abuelita, who’s played by Rita Morena.
In order to fit a star-studded cast that also features villains like Charlize Theron’s Cipher and foes-turned-friends such as Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw as well as John Cena’s Jakob Torreto, Fast X will have a run time of nearly 142 minutes – the longest in the franchise to date.
Just don’t expect Fast X to end on a good note as the series’ new director, Louis Leterrier, has confirmed that the ending will leave you hanging.
Fast X premieres on May 19, so expect to see critics publish their thoughts on the film within the next few days.
