Final Fantasy X Remake reportedly in development for 2026 launch

Final Fantasy X, which came out in 2001, was the first game in the franchise that was made specifically for the PlayStation 2.

Final Fantasy X is one of the safest entries to remaster or remake after Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 9.

Few franchises command the same level of respect and admiration as the Final Fantasy series. For more than three decades, Square Enix’s flagship series has captivated its players with its compelling narratives, vibrant worlds, and groundbreaking gameplay mechanics. One of the most cherished entries in this storied lineage, Final Fantasy X, is reportedly set for a full-scale remake, as per information from a noted industry insider.

The insider, known as “Im A Hero Too”, has made a name for themselves on the popular gaming forum ResetEra for accurately leaking information about upcoming games, including Persona 3 and Final Fantasy 9 remakes. Recently, they’ve disclosed that the next big project from Square Enix is none other than a Final Fantasy X remake. However, it’s important to note that this information remains unconfirmed by Square Enix.

According to these rumors, this much-anticipated remake is slated for release in 2026, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy X.

Final Fantasy X is considered one of the greatest games of all time.

This timing makes plenty of sense considering Square Enix’s track record. The developers tend to celebrate milestones with the release of remasters and remakes. Their Final Fantasy 7 Remake was met with universal acclaim, boosting sales and setting a high standard for future projects.

Final Fantasy X first graced the PlayStation 2 console in 2001 and was hailed for its cutting-edge graphics, deep storyline as well as a memorable cast of characters, and inventive blend of turn-based and action-packed gameplay. The game already has an HD remaster from 2013, but the proposed remake would be an entirely different proposition.

While the details about the extent of the remake are scanty, fans can expect a radical transformation akin to FF7 Remake or its sequel, FF7 Rebirth.

Titus and Yuna are two of the most iconic pairings in Final Fantasy history.

Despite the hefty weight of three years until the projected launch, the Final Fantasy community won’t be left twiddling their thumbs. With the release of Final Fantasy 16 later this month, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth due in 2024, and rumors of a Final Fantasy 9 remake scheduled for 2025, fans of the franchise are in for an exciting few years.
