Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster was released on the Nintendo Switch and PS4 last month and it appears to have paid off big time for Square Enix.

The Japanese video game publisher announced that Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster has sold two million units collectively on PC, consoles, and mobile. While Square Enix didn't provide a breakdown, it did state the total includes digital downloads, standard physical versions, and the collector's edition. It is an impressive milestone and shows how much fans adore the series.

The announcement was shared by Square Enix via the official Final Fantasy Twitter account.

The announcement was met with highly negative reactions from fans of the series. A lot of gamers remain frustrated that only the physical release includes all six Pixel Remaster games.

Pre-orders for the collection were offered in limited quantities in North America and went on sale in the middle of a Saturday night. The game quickly sold out as the demand for the collection was very high. However, copies of the game hit the secondary market where it sells for hundreds more than its retail price.
