February 6 State of Play to Feature Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Exclusively

Much to the delight of formerly disappointed fans, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is getting a special State of Play showcase on February 6.

We suppose this confirms that Rise of the Ronin will be getting its showcase in March as well.

A new PlayStation State of Play will air in February, with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth presumably as the solo headliner.

The upcoming presentation will air on Tuesday, February 6. It will showcase brand new FF7 Rebirth footage. This was confirmed at the end of its first State of Play showcase this year, suggesting that FF7 Rebirth will be the only game featured but we’ll see if Sony sneaks in a brand new game or two.

Square Enix has been doing the usual marketing press tours for the second part of the ambitious FF7 Remake Trilogy in recent weeks, giving press and attendees of various physical events first-hand looks at the game alongside revealing juicy information in interviews. It remains to be seen if Square will risk showing more spoilery stuff ahead of the game’s release on PS5.

Announced in June 2022, FF7 Rebirth continues the re-telling of the 1997 classic JRPG, Final Fantasy 7. It will adapt the events of the second half of the first disc of the original title but with expanded material, including a deeper look at the motivations behind Sephiroth’s villainy and unique sections dedicated to Zack Fair. The events of the sequel will stretch to the Forgotten City with no DLC currently planned, unlike the first game.

Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshinori Kitase are leading the development of FF7 Rebirth. Both had instrumental roles in the development of Final Fantasy 7 in 1997 as well.

FF7 Rebirth is launching exclusively on PS5 on February 29. A PC version is expected at an unknown later date, but it’s likely coming after Final Fantasy 16 arrives on PC sometime later this year.
