It looks like we're going back to Boston soon.

According to Bethesda, the award-winning post-apocalyptic open-world RPG, Fallout 4, will be getting a new update for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and the PC.

The company confirmed the good news after celebrating the franchise's 25th anniversary. It's unclear what enhancements and improvements the "free next-gen update" will include. However, we can assume 4K resolution support with a 120FPS mode, if not both, along with unspecified bug fixes and more content from the Creation Club.

Speaking of expectations, fans are worried that this incoming patch will break several of the existing mods in Fallout 4. It's worth noting that the same thing happened when Bethesda launched Skyrim Anniversary Edition a few years back. There's genuine concern that such a patch will be the death of Fallout 4's dwindling community, especially VR.

In any case, this new update feels like Bethesda's way of letting Fallout fans know they've not been forgotten.
