Elon Musk makes Steam integration official on Tesla cars

Here's what the new Tesla update says about the feature: Access the Steam store directly from your Tesla. Buy and play immersive games that have been verified on Steam Deck. With Steam's cloud synchronization, resume your game from your Tesla or any Steam device. To access Steam, tap the Application Launcher > Arcade. We still can't get over how a Tesla can play Cyberpunk 2077 even in its broken state last year.

Keep in mind that the Steam integration is still in its beta and is only available on 2022 Tesla Model S and X vehicles. Although we're expecting the occasional glitch or issue, we hope it won't be serious enough to raise concerns. Also, at the expense of ruffling feathers, you do have to have to be a subscriber to "premium connectivity", which is a Tesla-exclusive service that costs $100 a year or $10 a month.

Musk later revealed on Twitter that a "retrofit" for 2021 and other base model Tesla cars are coming eventually.

Tesla's Steam integration is a classic example of the common phrase, "just because you can doesn't mean you should."

We're aware certain Tesla car models could already run Cyberpunk 2077 last year, which is a feat considering the game's state at the time. But, the question of whether it's a good idea remains unanswered. Laws and regulations aside, the average citizen is probably capable of giving their opinion or two on why putting Steam on a car that can run all of the games in its library, isn't a good idea. It wasn't so long ago that Tesla cars let players enjoy games as they drive. We're pretty sure someone can come up with a fix for the issue that prevented that, if it's not already out yet.

Steam integration isn't the only new feature included in the recent Tesla update. It also adds a dog camera, garage door functionality, Zoom calling, as well as a "Light Show" option and Apple Music (premium connectivity is needed).
