If this delay leads to a more polished game on Day One, then we're confident no one will be complaining about it.

Fans of action role-playing games will have to contend with some bittersweet news about the upcoming game, Last Epoch. Developer Eleventh Hour Games – chuckles – has revealed that the release date for Last Epoch is being pushed back to early next year, and there’s a good reason why.

Last Epoch was scheduled to release this December, but now it has received a new release date of February 21 next year. This announcement came via a post on the game’s official forum penned by Game Director Judd Cobler, who revealed that the decision behind this was prompted by the crowded December schedule.

Since its Early Access phase on Steam, Last Epoch has captivated players with its intricate class system and extensive skill trees, rivalling Path of Exile. With five main classes that branch out into an incredible 15 mastery classes, the hack and slash RPG has shown a lot of promise so far.

Twelve of these mastery classes are already up and running, giving players a taste of the depth and variety they can expect in the final version. There are also over 120 skills, each with its own unique skill tree, which allows players to tailor their gameplay to their preferences.

Eleventh Hour Games will not just stop at the 1.0 release. According to Cobler, the team has grand plans for regular content updates, dubbed “Cycles,” (they couldn’t have called them epochs, clearly) which are set to roll out every few months. These updates will include a fresh wave of content, enhancements, and quality-of-life improvements.

The decision to delay the release to February comes as a strategic move that will grant ARPG fans the space to fully enjoy Last Epoch without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by other releases. This delay will also provide the team with valuable time to polish the new systems and classes, fix bugs, and give the developers a well-deserved break before post-launch development.

Cobler has also shed light on what players can expect post-launch. While there won’t be any significant end-game system expansion at 1.0, the item faction system will be integrated into the end-game loop. Moreover, we can expect challenging static boss content, additional system layers to Monolith, and more itemization classes.

Last Epoch is available in Early Access for PC players via Steam.
