We’re only weeks away from the release of Tekken 8 and the marketing machine, as expected, is in full gear.
We now know more about Tekken 8. For example, how Katsuhiro Harada isn’t responsible for its chest bouncing physics, among matters, and Bandai Namco is starting to peel off the layers regarding what’s coming to the fighting game post-launch.
Today, Bandai has confirmed that Eddy Gordo, a fan-favorite character, will be the first DLC fighter for Tekken 8.
Eddy Gordo, known for his distinctive Capoeira fighting style, has been a staple of the Tekken series since his debut in Tekken 3. He’s a common fixture among professional Tekken players, but is also well-known for being a beginner-friendly character. Eddy’s return in Tekken 8 has seen his character being given a fresh redesign, maintaining his iconic martial arts prowess. His addition to the roster is particularly significant for long-time fans of the series, as Eddy has appeared in every mainline Tekken game since his introduction.
The base roster of Tekken 8 features an excellent mix of brand new and returning characters, including Azucena, Victor Chevalier, Reina, Kazuya Mishima, Jin Kazama, Alisa Bosconovitch, Leroy Smith, and Jun Kazama. The fighting game will launch with 32 unique fighters, each bringing their own fighting styles and backstories to the rich Tekken universe.
Going back to Eddy Gordo’s return, his announcement as a DLC character came via the game’s opening movie, which Bandai Namco released on their YouTube channel. The clip showcases intense action and hints at the game’s story while setting the stage for the season pass content. Eddy’s arrival in the spring will be followed by three more characters releasing in the summer, autumn/fall, and winter, respectively, as part of the Year 1 pass.
An earlier leak suggested possible DLC characters for Tekken 8, including Eddy Gordo, and his subsequent confirmation now lends some credibility to the leak, although we will be waiting for further official announcements from Bandai Namco regarding the remaining characters. The earlier leak also mentioned Roger the Kangaroo, Xiao Meng, and Armor King as part of the Year 1 pass.
As the Tekken series continues to evolve, the return of Eddy Gordo in Tekken 8 is representative of a blend of nostalgia and innovation, and his revamped character should deliver an exciting experience for both new players and series veterans alike.
With the game’s release date on January 26 fast approaching, the air of anticipation surrounding Tekken 8 is electric. Having a freely available demo to play doesn’t hurt either.
