Video game developer Funcom took the stage to announce its upcoming title, Dune: Awakening, during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event. The announcement came via a trailer which showed a character, possibly Paul Atreides, looking on as a humongous sandworm devours a spice harvester.
Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival Massively Multiplayer Online game set in the Dune world of Arrakis. It comes after Funcom's 2022 strategy game set in the same universe titled Dune: Spice Wars.
The game is inspired by Frank Herbert's 1965 epic science fiction novel that many consider one of the best science fiction works of all time, as well as Denis Villeneuve's 2021 blockbuster movie, and is being developed in partnership with Legendary Studios.
