Dragon Ball fans better get ready to sing Cha-La Head Cha-La because some scream-worthy news is on the horizon. The upcoming new entry to one of gaming’s more popular niche fighting games, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4, might be releasing sooner than we expected, if we’re to believe the recent reports.

The controversial leaker and content creator Geekdom101 revealed the news through Twitter (or X), stating that “Tenkaichi 4 is coming sooner than people realize”. While they didn’t reveal the exact release date, the leaker narrowed down the game’s release to early 2024 and later revealed that they might give “more news” in the course of this week.

Furthermore, recent social media posts from one of the game’s voice actors suggest that English voice work for the game is already underway, hinting that the game’s development might be in advanced stages. However, it’s important to take these rumors with a grain of salt until we hear an official confirmation.

Fans of the franchise will recall that the last mainline installment, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, was released over a decade ago. Since then, the gaming world has seen remarkable advancements in graphics, gameplay mechanics, and overall gaming experiences. Given this, the prospect of a new entry in the Budokai Tenkaichi series, optimized for modern gaming platforms, is nothing short of exhilarating.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 was announced by developer Bandai Namco earlier this year at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023 event. From the teaser trailer that accompanied the announcement, the real showstopper was the reveal of Goku in his Super Saiyan Blue form, a transformation from the latest Dragon Ball Super anime series.

This not only hyped up fans but also hinted at the inclusion of characters and possibly story arcs from Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball fans can also expect the signature arena fighter battles, viewed from a third-person over-the-shoulder perspective. What’s more, Geekdom101 has previously teased that the game will have a bigger roster than 2016’s Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

The Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi franchise made its debut in 2005 as a PlayStation exclusive, but subsequent entries have expanded to other platforms, including the Nintendo Wii. Whether Budokai Tenkaichi 4 will be a PlayStation exclusive remains to be seen, but several sources claim that the game will be released on current-generation consoles.
