David Hayter, the iconic voice of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear franchise, is preparing to give fans an in-depth look at the history of the series and its potential future.
Konami, in collaboration with Hayter, recently started the METAL GEAR SOLID Legacy series on YouTube, where the voice actor delves into the history and impact of the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
Following the release of the first episode, Hayter is teasing a comprehensive overview of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in the coming episodes.
Regarded by many as the pinnacle of the award-winning franchise, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater originally launched in the early 2000s. The first game in the series’ timeline, Metal Gear Solid 3 is widely celebrated for its in-depth stealth mechanics, compelling narrative, and groundbreaking gameplay.
Set during the Cold War era, the prequel follows Naked Snake, the genetical father of Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake, as he embarks on a mission deep within the Soviet jungle and eventually earns the title of “Big Boss.”
In this mission, dubbed “Operation Snake Eater”, players will have to make full use of the environment and Naked Snake’s limited arsenal as they navigate their way through enemy compounds and manage Snake’s stamina by hunting local wildlife.
It’s unclear how the upcoming remake will handle the said elements. All that we know so far is it’s currently under development for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X with no specific release date announced. But Sony did tease its potential release later this year with Konami asking fans to wait for more information.
Nevertheless, the remake is promising to bring this classic adventure to modern audiences with updated graphics and gameplay, all while preserving the original voice recordings, ensuring Hayter’s return as the beloved character.
As for the Legacy Series, Hayter has already touched on why the Metal Gear franchise has captivated so many fans over the years. His hint at future episodes delving “into the epic, long-awaited remake” has already led to speculation. Many are hoping for a closer look at its development progress, possibly real-time gameplay, and even behind-the-scenes content. Most are especially curious how Virtuos is tackling this project without the guidance of the man that started it all; Hideo Kojima’s messy divorce with Konami remains fresh on the minds of fans who still lament what could’ve been had the video game auteur gotten a chance to realize his full vision for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
The Metal Gear Solid series, since its inception, has been a cornerstone of the stealth genre, with each entry pushing the boundaries of storytelling, gameplay, and character development. Metal Gear Solid 3 is no exception. The remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, aims to recapture the magic of the original while leveraging the power of modern gaming technology to enhance its visuals and mechanics for a new generation of gamers.
The success of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will likely determine if Konami will continue pursuing other remakes of the franchise, which rumors suggest is already on the table.
As for Kojima, he’s working on his own project to surpass Metal Gear, working closely together with Sony for what could potentially be a PlayStation 6 exclusive.
