Westworld's co-creator, Jonathan Nolan, has revealed that season 5 will be the show's final season, if HBO decides to renew it. He also revealed that he [and his co-creator] are still in the process of getting the said final season approved. He made this comment at the New York Comic-Con over the weekend. In his words, "We always planned for a fifth and final season. We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them."

Co-creator Reveals That Season 5 Will Be Westworld's Final Season If Hbo Renews It

In August, Nolan's co-creator, Lisa Joy, made a similar statement in a separate interview, saying: We had always planned on ending the series next season. You know, we always thought that Westworld should kind of come full circle and back to the West. But with Dolores, who was just a player in other people's games, finally getting to write her own. Just to close up a lot of the stuff that we've seen before like the flashforward with The Man in Black and everything, so we have a plan for Season 5 but you know, life can make other plans for you. So, we'll just hope for the best. Westworld's season 4 finished in August but HBO Max hasn't decided whether to cancel or renew another season.

During its first few seasons, Westworld received impressive ratings from critics and fans alike who especially appreciated the refreshing concept, narrative, themes, and visuals. The show's first season enjoyed the most viewership of any HBO original series' debut season. Unfortunately, the series could not retain the interest of fans across all its installments and the viewership numbers have drastically dropped since.
