The ever-experimental streaming platform, Netflix, is trying out something new with Chris Rock.
Shortly after launching its ad-supported tier, the streamer announced its first live-streaming event early next year. Specifically, the historical move will see Chris Rock host a live comedy special for Netflix.
Here's what Netflix vice president of Stand-up and Comedy Formats, Robbie Praw, had to say in the announcement: Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation.
We're thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we're so honored that Chris is carrying this torch. Netflix revealed earlier this year that it will support livestreaming shows going forward with a particular focus on unscripted content, live comedy shows, reality reunion specials, as well as competition shows and so much more.
Rock is an easy and safe choice for Netflix. As one of the world's most popular comedians, Rock is a proven draw that should guarantee millions of viewers for the comedy show. Rock has also worked with Netflix several times in the past, including on Tamborine, which currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
