The Extraction universe is getting a lot bigger. Franchise star Chris Hemsworth will be returning as Tyler Rake in a third movie. Hemsworth and series director Sam Hargrave were on stage last Saturday at the live event held in Brazil to announce a third installment.
The sequel announcement was made just two days after the premiere of Extraction 2. The second film's ending suggests that more entries in the series are coming. Idris Elda's unnamed character advises Tyler Rake that he can lessen his prison sentence by taking on more extraction missions.
The Extraction series seems to be heading down a similar path as Keanu Reeves' John Wick. Both film franchises are structured similarly as scalable stunt-heavy movies led by one of Hollywood's most recognizable stars.
Extraction series screenwriter Joe Russo addressed the possibility of having more films in the popular series earlier this year, much to the delight of fans - despite seemingly being just a casual action romp, viewers have become interested in the IP's universe.
"I mean, you never want to anticipate the audience's response, but there's certainly room for an Extraction 3," Russo said. There are some surprises in Extraction 2 that could open up the world of Extraction, on top of which, I think Sam Hargrave did an incredible job with this film, and I think that he has topped the first one.
