Charlie Day wants to reprise Luigi role in Luigi’s Mansion movie

During a recent interview with CBR, Day and Chris Pratt, who voiced the titular character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, stated their preferred storyline for The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel, with both actors echoing Mario Golf.

Pratt, however, revealed that the film's creative team discussed Luigi's Mansion. In his words, "Listen, there's like, at the end of the film, there's a post-credit sequence that gives you a taste of what the sequel could be about. And that gets me very, very excited. But there's been talk of Luigi's Mansion. That was a Gamecube game. I think that would be great."

Apart from Pratt and Day, The Super Mario Bros. Movie features multiple A-list actors including Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan Michael-Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, and Sebastian Maniscalco, among others. They play Princess Peach, Bowser, Toad, Donkey Kong, Cranky Kong, and Foreman Spike respectively.

Chris Meledandri, Illumination Studios CEO, produced the film alongside Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Super Mario universe. Matthew Fogel developed the screenplay, while Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed it.

Given that Nintendo and Illumination Studios are yet to provide any information regarding other Super Mario-related projects, it is uncertain if The Super Mario Bros. Movie will get a sequel and if they will adapt Luigi's Mansion. However, many sources suggest that the film's performance at the box office will inform the production companies' decision.

By the way, Day isn't the only supporting cast member that wants a spinoff of his character. During a recent interview with Collider, Rogen expressed interest in reprising his role as Donkey Kong in a spinoff that stars the character.

Although it was originally slated for an April 7 release, The Super Mario Bros. Movie will now arrive in cinemas across the United States on April 5.
