Is CD Projekt RED working on a Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition?

An "errant" PEGI rating suggests that a definitive version of Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be released sooner rather than later.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition would sell well if priced right, especially if it came with freebies.

Cyberpunk 2077 has had quite the turnaround. After spending two years post-launch becoming the laughing stock of the internet, CD Projekt RED’s efforts have bore fruit. These days, Cyberpunk 2077 is making up a quarter of CD Projekt RED’s lifetime sales figure. What’s more is that its one and only premium expansion, Phantom Liberty, is selling well. But, this isn’t all the Polish studio has lined up for Cyberpunk 2077.

Now that both the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty are out on the market already, it appears CDPR is looking to release a physical bundle containing both.

As spotted by the good folks over at Reddit, the European video game rating system, PEGI, has revealed CDPR plans to release a next-gen exclusive bundle for Cyberpunk 2077 under a new name, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. We can only presume that this includes both the base game and expansion.

Physical re-releases of video games after all of the updates and expansions have finished launching aren’t uncommon. Case in point, Guerilla Games and PlayStation Studios recently released Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition, a two-disc bundle that comes with both the base game and the controversial DLC, Burning Shores, for the PlayStation 5.

At the moment, interested players can buy digital copies of Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty as bundled together or individually. The latter costs $29.99 and will likely remain full-priced for quite some time given how well it’s selling.

The turnaround Cyberpunk 2077 made in three years is nothing short of amazing.

Given that the rating for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is already online, we’re expecting an official announcement to happen in a few months. Most likely, CDPR will wait to confirm the Ultimate Edition until after the holidays are over. This way, it will have squeezed out the most sales out of the expansion and guaranteed that people will continue buying Cyberpunk 2077 before the current fiscal year ends. Thus, it’s safe to assume that the listed release date, December 31, is a placeholder date.

Whether it’s because of the ongoing debate between video game ownership or the disappointment of seeing more and more games being released digitally exclusively, the consensus among fans is that they’re looking forward to getting a proper physical edition for Cyberpunk 2077 on next-gen consoles.

As a matter of fact, plenty are asking for a proper Collector’s Edition bundle, which would be neat. A handful of recent and upcoming releases such as Starfield, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, has similar premium-priced bundles. It’d make sense of CDPR had something like that planned. Of course, those with terrible internet connections would welcome the physical release the most.

Cyberpunk 2077 will go down as one of the best games of its generation.

At best, we’re looking at CDPR bundling a combination of exclusive alternative character skins, guns, and cars, alongside the Ultimate Edition, to drum up hype. But, it wouldn’t hurt to ask, right? We’re sure the internet will have a field day if CDPR went with something like 19 inches of Solomon Reed, Idris Elba’s character in Phantom Liberty.
