We've got bad news for anyone hoping to see Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer at some point in the future. As a result of the botched release of Cyberpunk 2077, which may or may not be because of the game's quality assurance company, CD Projekt RED has had no choice but to shelve the once-promised multiplayer functionality of the game.
CDPR narrative director and lead quest designer, Philipp Weber, explained in an interview with Eurogamer that we'll never get to see the multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077:
[Fixing Cyberpunk 2077 after launch] meant that other R&D projects had to go away. With Cyberpunk, we wanted to do many things at the same time, and we just needed to really focus and say, 'Ok, what's the important pat? Yeah, we will make that part really good.
Cyberpunk 2077 suffered mightily from the weight of expectations. It didn't help at all that the game launched as an incomplete product. It took CDPR the better part of the past two years to fix Cyberpunk 2077 and get it to a playable state. Many hoped that the second wind in life it got, thanks mainly to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, was enough to encourage CDPR to go back and work on Cyberpunk 2077.
