CD Projekt Red went all out with the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, the new content featured an unintended graphical enhancement.
The Witcher 3 recently added a next-gen enhancement for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S to utilize new hardware. The new update improved gameplay and graphics for players on next-gen consoles. Unfortunately, the new patch also came with a community-created mod that featured realistic female genitals.
Kotaku reports that CD Projekt Red has acknowledged the blunder and is working on a patch to address the accidental and unintended inclusion of realistic vaginas in the next-gen version of The Witcher 3. The studio also confirmed that the feature was from a community-sourced mod.
The next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt features several community-sourced mods not created by CD Projekt Red, on top of numerous enhancements created and implemented by the studio internally,” a CD Projekt Red spokesperson said. “Merging everything together was a complex process and the textures in question are an unintended result present in the release version. This is something we are working to address.”
In The Witcher 3, females had no visible genitals, even in scenes that involved full-frontal nudity. The genital area is just smoothed-over with no visible textures. In the next-gen update, the crones from Crookback Bog and the bruxas (NPC that had full-frontal nudity) were shown with realistic pubic hair and genitals.
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the textures for the realistic genitals will be removed “as these textures were not meant to be present in the release version of the game.”
It may be hard to believe that someone would actually make a community mod for realistic genitals. However, these are extremely popular in the modding communities for the game. CD Projekt Red also has not shied away from showing private parts in its games.
The next-gen update for The Witcher 3 was wildly popular with gamers. The PS5 version of the game surpassed God of War: Ragnarok as the second-highest-rated game on the console. Only Elden Ring has gotten better scores on the platform.
The next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt supports 60 FPS and ray-tracing the new generation consoles. The game also adds quality-of-life features such as the ability to cast signs faster. The new update is free for players who already own the full game on the platform.
CD Projekt Red is currently working on The Witcher 4 as well as a remake of the original Witcher trilogy. No release date has been announced for both projects.
