Among Us was one of the most popular games since the start of the COVID-19 lockdowns and it continues to remain very popular to this day. Now, it’s extending its reach outside the gaming realm with a new animated series.
- CBS is developing an animated series based on the game Among Us.
- Owen Dennis, known for Infinity Train, will be the creator and executive producer.
- The show’s premise will mirror the game, focusing on an alien shapeshifter among a crew.
- No streaming platform or network has been attached to the project yet.
- The release date for the Among Us animated series is not yet announced.
According to a report by Variety, CBS Eye Animation Productions is partnering with Innersloth, the indie studio behind Among Us, in developing an animated TV show. Owen Dennis has been tapped to serve as creator and executive producer for the project.
We do not have many details about the Among Us animated series. However, the premise of the show is virtually identical to that of the game.
The show’s premise reads, “Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.”
Titmouse will work as the animation studio of the upcoming series. Forest Willard, Marcus Bromander, and Carl Neisser of Innersloth join Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina of Titmouse and Dennis as executive producers of the animated series.
No streaming platform or network has been attached to the project as of writing. The negotiations on where and when to air the series are reportedly ongoing. However, given that CBS is involved in the project, there is a huge possibility that it will air on Paramount+.
Dennis is best known for creating Infinity Train for Cartoon Network and Max, which debuted on the official Cartoon Network Youtube Channel in 2016, with the first full season premiering on the network in 2019. Infinity Train was renewed for a second season before moving to Max for seasons 3 and 4. Prior to Infinity Train, Dennis worked on Cartoon Network’s Regular Show as a writer and storyboard artist.
Among Us was first released in 2018 for PC, iOS, and Android. However, it wasn’t until it saw a massive spike in popularity right in the middle of the global pandemic that it hit its stride and exploded in popularity. The game allowed gamers to socialize despite having social distancing protocols in place.
Twitch streamer Sodapoppin has been creative with popularizing Among Us, but several other, well-known content creators like Pokimane, Shroud, MrBeast, and PewDiePie helped popularize the game as well.
Due to the game’s popularity, it was ported to the Nintendo Switch in December 2020. Among Us eventually released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S a year later. Crossplay is available for the game’s PC, Switch, and mobile versions.
It will be interesting to see how Dennis and the production team capture the thrill of finding out which crew member is the impostor. We expect huge plot twists and turncoat characters in the animated series.
No release date has been announced for the Among Us animated series.
