From seemingly out of nowhere, Capcom dropped arguably one of the more interesting titles to appear at the Xbox Games Showcase, Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess.
The upcoming action game seemingly transports players into a world deeply entrenched in Japanese mythology, complete with intimidating monsters, mystifying masks, and a vividly captivating aesthetic.
Although not as esteemed as the other reveals, the announcement held its own among its contemporaries, adding an air of intrigue that surrounded the rest of the event.
While details remain sparse at this stage, the available information hints at a highly engaging gameplay combining action and strategy. Microsoft’s Xbox blog revealed that players would have to combat various creatures in a bid to lead the ‘Spirit Stone Maiden’ on her destined path.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess is set against the backdrop of a sacred mountain desecrated by people, resulting in a blight spreading across the lands. This blight has attracted creatures called the Seethe, posing a significant threat to the survival and prosperity of the inhabitants. Players will be tasked with vanquishing these foul creatures to clear the way for the Spirit Stone Maiden, who is tasked with performing a cleansing rite to restore the lands.
Drawing from Capcom’s legacy of creating unique and original titles, Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess promises to be a labor of love that explores an immersive world wherein traditional Japanese aesthetics come alive with the power of the RE Engine.
For seasoned Capcom fans, Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess will look familiar, bringing to mind memorable titles like Asura’s Wrath, known for its rich tapestry of Buddhist mythology and unforgettable, fury-fueled protagonist. While there’s no explicit connection, the motifs of spiritual corruption and masked figures in Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess may evoke a sense of nostalgic similarity.
Furthermore, Kunitsu-Gami: Path Of The Goddess will leverage the power of the RE Engine, originally designed for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This engine is behind several other popular Capcom games, including the Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, and Street Fighter 6.
Although initially announced for the Xbox Series S and X, PC (via the Microsoft Store and Steam), the Game Pass, as well as the PS5, as per the Capcom Showcase.
