WB Games Montreal will cap Gotham Knights performance on consoles

Despite the added grunt of the current-gen consoles, Gotham Knights will be capped at 30FPS on the Xbox Series S/X and the PlayStation 5.

We're hoping that Gotham Knights won't at least look a lot worse on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X than on the PC.

WB Games Montreal confirmed earlier this year that Gotham Knights will not launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, in order to maximize the game’s performance. Because of this, fans expected Gotham Knights to run on the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 nearly as well as it does on the PC.

But, as it turns out, WB Games Montreal is still going to make plenty of concessions to get Gotham Knights to run well on current-gen consoles.

According to one of the game’s developers, Gotham Knights’ frame rates are capped at 30 FPS on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series S/X. Unlike several other current-gen exclusive titles, Gotham Knights will not let players choose between quality and performance modes. WB explains that the main reason for this is the co-op element. Gotham Knights will let its players jump in and out of games seamlessly.

A lot of games these days usually have an option for the best possible visuals at a 30 FPS cap with another sacrificing resolution and graphics for higher framerates, which is usually 60 FPS (some can go as high 120 FPS). It’s a shame that Gotham Knights will not have this option.

WB Games Montreal’s performance cap on Gotham Knights shouldn’t set a precedence for other developers to do the same.

We’re curious to find out how this “lack” of performance options for Gotham Knights will affect its sales when it comes out on October 21.
