Brock Lesnar Receives Standing Ovation Following WWE Backlash Loss

The crowd's reaction to Brock Lesnar's loss confirms that both him and his opponent, Cody Rhodes, benefitted from the matchup.

Very few wrestlers can make losing to another all-time great look like a fluke and Brock Lesnar is part of that short list.

Former WWE and UFC Champion, Brock Lesnar, got a standing ovation from fans in San Juan following his loss at WWE Backlash.

Brock Lesnar squared off against Cody Rhodes in a highly anticipated grudge match that started when The Beast Incarnate attacked The American Nightmare at RAW After WrestleMania. The match, which ended in less than 10 minutes, featured the underdog, Rhodes, digging deep into his bag and ultimately outmaneuvering Lesnar in what’s considered by some as an upset win. But, despite the loss, it appears the crowd didn’t lose any respect for Lesnar at all.

Off-air, the crowd cheered Lesnar on, who’s easily one of the best sellers of his generation, proving his dominant reputation remains untarnished.

Fans even took to social media to share videos and reactions to the standing ovation.

For his part, Lesnar took a moment to acknowledge the raging fans, nodding in appreciation before ultimately leaving the ring. It was a rare sight to see the crowd pay one of the most prolific combat athletes of all time such respect and gratitude after a loss.

The wrestling community has long admired Lesnar for his showmanship, tenacity, and uncanny athletic ability, especially for a man his size. An absolute unit, as some people say, Lesnar is a former NCAA wrestling champion that transitioned to the world of professional wrestling in 2002. Lesnar also had a successful time in mixed martial arts, even winning the UFC Heavyweight Championship in 2008, among other things.

Judging by how it ended, we don’t think the WWE is done with Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes just yet.

WWE fans are still discussing the ending to WWE Backlash given Lesnar’s defeat. Most assumed the WWE would squeeze at least two more PPV events between the two, culminating in a clash at SummerSlam in August if only to lengthen Roman Reigns’ championship reign (pun intended).

Regardless, the standing ovation was a clear indication of their continued support. The event showed that even in the face of adversity, Brock Lesnar’s legacy remains strong, and fans are eager to see what the future holds for the wrestler.

Speaking of Backlash, the most recent WWE PPV event saw the return of Carlito. It’s now believed that the Puerto Rican wrestler is open to signing with the WWE again.
