Larian Studios responded to player reports of crashes after Patch #5 by releasing Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix #12 over the weekend.
Just recently, Larian Studios unveiled a huge update for their hit Dungeons & Dragons CRPG Baldur’s Gate 3. Update Patch #5 added tons of content to the already meaty gameplay experience in BG3, including over 3000 voiced dialogue for the new Epilogues. Plus, the patch added new game modes, Korean subtitles, and resolved multiple bugs and glitches.
But it seems Patch #5 came with some unforeseen technical issues. Baldur’s Gate 3 players sent Larian Studios important feedback that certain interactions were causing the game to crash. Swen Vincke and his crew looked into these apparent game-breaking bugs and responded quickly.
Hotfix 12 is now live for Baldur's Gate 3.
This update addresses crashes that were occurring in certain instances, such as starting a conversation with Cazador and joining with a second controller and activating split-screen in certain places.

Specifically, this weekend Hotfix #12 for Baldur’s Gate 3 addressed two major bugs which players reported:
- A crash that occurs when joining with a second controller and activating split-screen in certain places.
- Another crash which occurs when interacting with some NPCs in the game. BG3 players reported this happens when speaking in certain conditions to Cazardor or Thisobald Thorm.
While this is a very small update, it is still an important one. Larian Studios has been releasing a consistent stream of hotfixes and bigger patches since Baldur’s Gate 3 launched earlier this year. Although the roleplaying game officially licensed from and partnered with Wizards of the Coast is a bona fide hit, the initial release was full of bugs and tech issues.
Larian Studios has received universal praise for its regular updates and responsiveness to player feedback. In fact, this is what led to winning the Best Game Community title at this year’s Golden Joystick Awards and being nominated for the same category at the upcoming 2023 Game Awards.
Fans and industry experts have been outspoken with commending how Larian Studios is handling Baldur’s Gate 3 complaints due to technical problems. Some have even pointed out that this level of consistency is nearly unheard of for AAA game developers who wait months or longer to even acknowledge the existence of major bugs and glitches.
For example, Starfield players are concerned about at least 300 tech issues, but it seems Bethesda Softworks is focusing their 250-man dev team on an upcoming DLC.
What is your honest opinion about Hotfix #12 and the regular updates released by Larian Studios for Baldur’s Gate 3? Is this how responsive AAA companies should be with player reports? Or do you think Larian Studios released a half-baked game and should have pushed back the BG 3 release in favor of a more polished product? Are you looking forward to the soon-to-be-released Baldur’s Gate 3 versions for the Xbox Series X/S?
