James Cameron's Avatar holds the record for the highest-grossing film of all time with a whopping $2.92 billion in box office revenues. His other hit film, Titanic, is the third highest-grossing film of all time.

Cameron's latest project, Avatar: The Way of the Water, aims to be part of the top five highest-earning movies ever. Not just because he wants another chart-topping movie, but because it needs to be up there with the likes of Avengers: Endgame just to recoup the cost of producing the film, or so 20th Century Studios' executives have told him

The director recently revealed that the film needs to be the fourth or fifth highest-grossing film of all time to break even. This means beating the likes of Star Wars: Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War, which earned $2.07 billion and $2.05 billion respectively.

Early reports claimed that the production of Avatar 2 had a budget of over $250 million. Cameron has not revealed how much the production of the movie actually costs. When asked about how much the upcoming movie costs, the director replied "very f*cking [expensive]."
