Assassin’s Creed Mirage is returning to its roots with a shorter story-driven stealth action-adventure game. The upcoming installment of the famed series will be shorter than most of its predecessors.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Lead Producer Fabian Salomon was recently interviewed by YouTuber Julien Chieze about the next entry in the best-selling franchise. According to Salomon, it will take players an average of 20-24 hours to finish Mirage. Completionists may spend up to 30 hours of playtime.
Given that we do a lot of playtesting internally at Ubisoft, it’s part of our process, we really want to get as close as possible to the players, so we’ll say that the latest playtimes we’ve received average at around 20-23 hours,” Salomon said. “That can go up to 25-30 hours for the completionists, and we’ll say that those who will be rushing the game will be around 20 hours.”
Ubisoft made it clear in its announcement that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be a shorter title than the previous trilogy. It is a throwback to the classic Assassin’s Creed games which players could finish in about the same amount of time.
Many gamers complained about the length of the previous three entries into the series. The huge open world combined with RPG elements made Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla such lengthy titles that players felt burned out by the time the story was completed.
Ubisoft is scaling things back with Mirage with a map size similar to Constantinople in Assassin’s Creed Revelations. The upcoming game will feature just one main city in Baghdad similar to older games like Assassin’s Creed Unity and Syndicate. The setting will still be in an open world but on a much smaller scale.
While the map size may be smaller, the area is still packed with things to do. Players can still complete side missions and points of interest for players to explore.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will also be featuring a parkour system that is “closer to the Ezio games.” The traversal system works well on a smaller-scale map like Baghdad.
Ubisoft seemingly made a smart move by scaling back the game length of Assassin’s Creed Mirage as the game is releasing close to the launch of Alan Wake 2 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The shorter playthrough will be appealing to gamers waiting on the bigger titles.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 12.
