Ubisoft confirms setting and hero for Assassin's Creed Mirage

According to the French video game publisher, more about Mirage will be revealed on September 10.

When the leaks about the next Assassin's Creed game started getting out of hand, Ubisoft had two choices: try and eventually fail to plug all the holes or just confirm the game already.

It looks like we'll be getting more Assassin's Creed game set around the same time as Altair's ascension through the ranks.

Judging by Ubisoft's most recent announcement, the publisher chose the latter.

Just as the company was struggling to issue copyright notices to take down all of the social media posts containing leaked Assassin's Creed information, Ubisoft went and confirmed the name, setting, as well as protagonist for the next Assassin's Creed game.

According to Ubisoft, the next entry in the best-selling series will be called "Assassin's Creed Mirage."

Ubisoft's announcement comes over a week ahead of a larger reveal scheduled for the 10th at the company's upcoming Ubisoft Forward showcase.

The company didn't provide more details about Mirage outside of the image, which seems to corroborate earlier reports that the game will be set in the Middle East with a person that looks a lot like Basim as the lead.

Assassin's Creed has worn several hats. The series initially started as an action-adventure game with a focus on stealth and exploration before eventually becoming more of an open-world adventure title. Then, starting with Assassin's Creed: Origins in 2017, Ubisoft leaned more towards the RPG side of things and might have fallen in love too hard with it. Because of the negative feedback, the next Assassin's Creed game will bring the series back to its roots.

As per the earlier leaks, Assassin's Creed Mirage will be a stealth-focused action-adventure game similar to the first Assassin's Creed from 2007.

It will be interesting to see how the market will respond to a new Assassin's Creed game that's more like the older titles.

Only time will tell if this leak is true or not. But, so far, the intel has proven correct. The same individuals that leaked Mirage are making claims that a future Assassin's Creed game could take place in Japan. However, the same sources aren't sure if it's going to be a separate title or a part of Assassin's Creed Infinity. Speaking of, Infinity is reportedly a Fortnite-like hub where players can access all the games from the Assassin's Creed franchise going forward.

For what it's worth, a lot is definitely happening with Assassin's Creed and it won't be long before we find out more. Hopefully, we'll also receive news of the rumored Assassin's Creed remake at the event as well.
