Armored Core 6 features two DRMs

The upcoming Mecha game made by FromSoftware will be using the Arxan DRM on top of the Easy Anti-Cheat on Steam.

FromSoftware is double dipping on the DRM protection.

Fans are really excited about the launch of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The upcoming mecha game arrives at the end of the month and while it won’t be using Denuvo DRM, it will be using two other DRMs for protection.

According to the game’s Steam store page, Armored Core 6 will feature two DRMs when it launches on PC. Gamers may be wondering why the game would need that much protection from third-party tools.

FromSoftware revealed that the upcoming Mecha game will use both Arxan and Easy Anti-Cheat software. Both of the said DRMs need to be enabled to play Armored Core 6 since the game has online multiplayer

DRM or Digital Rights Management tools are used by game developers to protect against unauthorized access to the software and prevent any attempt at copying or modifying a game’s files. Arxan is an anti-tampering tool that has been used in AAA titles such as the Call of Duty series, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Fires of Rubicon will also be employing the Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) system. EAC has been used in FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, as well as other popular titles like Fortnite, Fall Guys, Apex Legends, and Dead By Daylight. The software is one of the most commonly used anti-cheat systems for online multiplayer games.

Armored Core 6 will feature both Arxan and Easy Anti-Cheat.

FromSoftware is beefing up the security of Armored Core 6 with the use of Arxan DRM. The studio previously only used Easy Anti-Cheat as a form of protection against third-party tools. FromSoftware stated using anti-cheat software after a temporary shutdown of Dark Souls servers following an exploit that allowed malicious individuals to remotely access other gamers’ PCs.

Gamers have expressed concern over the use of DRMs as these may have an impact on the performance and long-term preservation of games. Anti-cheat software may use up resources like CPU and RAM which could potentially impact a game’s performance. However, most of these types of anti-cheat tools have been designed to run in the background and use minimal resources.

Most recently, Deep Silver and Starbreeze announced that Payday 3 will be using the Denuvo Anti-Tamper software. It is also the same software used by Street Fighter 6 to prevent malicious access to its game files.

The two DRM software must be enabled to play Armored Core 6.

Players don’t need to worry about anti-cheat software having a significant impact on the performance of Armored Core 6. Even with two DRM software running in the background, as long as your machine meets the system requirements of the game, then you are all set.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on August 25.
