Activision to start Modern Warfare 2 gameplay playtests this week

The "leak" comes shortly after Infinity Ward went on a social media blackout on April 23.

2022's Call of Duty will have to live up to lofty if unrealistic expectations.

It appears that Infinity Ward is preparing for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 reveal. A few months ago, Activision confirmed that the sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare is coming this year, but we haven’t heard much about the project outside of leaks and rumors. This isn’t to say that the upcoming information comes from official sources, but it does follow up on Infinity Ward’s social media blackout.

Over the past weekend, eagle-eyed observers noticed that Infinity Ward had removed all posts on its Instagram account and updated its Twitter to show a teaser image with the fan-favorite character, Ghost, hiding under a flight of stairs.

We’ve known since December that the next Call of Duty game will bring back the original voice actor for Ghost, and this pretty much confirms that. But, that’s not all.

In addition to teasing a full reveal, a prominent Call of Duty insider, RalphsValve, went on Twitter to announce that Activision had invited influencers and residents around South California to test out Modern Warfare 2 as early as this week. Of course, since we live in a day and age where people break NDAs all the time, many believe that Infinity Ward will go ahead and reveal more of the upcoming game so that they don’t have to worry about information leaking anymore.

If the ruumors are true, Infinity Ward will have the next 2-3 years all to themselves as far as mainline Call of Duty titles are concerned.

Finally, RalphsValve claims that he has his hands on concept art, campaign footage, as well as promotional teasers for Modern Warfare 2 as he reminds fans to circle April 30 on their calendars.

The next two years will have a huge impact on Call of Duty. After Activision explained that the marquee shooter’s business model has evolved to an “always-on” model earlier this month, details of the next Call of Duty installment by Sledgehammer Games also came up. With Activision expected to drop Warzone 2 and Warzone Mobile within a year from now, the next two years will have a huge impact on Call of Duty
