Marvel Comics fans have long been asking for more comic book-accurate character costumes on the big screen, and we’ve gotten them – for the most part. From the Scarlet Witch to Doctor Strange, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is embracing the comic book look of some of their most prominent heroes. Now, a new rumor suggests that audiences might finally see Wolverine wearing his familiar bright blue and yellow costume from the comics and animated series.
Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine for a total of eight X-Men films but none of them feature the actor wearing the yellow and blue suit. The original X-Men movie even mocked the comic book outfit with Cyclops calling it “yellow spandex.
However, a new rumor from reliable scooper @canwegetsometoast suggests that fans may soon see the iconic costume in Deadpool 3. The insider recently shared a photo of Wolverine’s classic yellow and black mask on Instagram.
“Now that Deadpool 3 set photos are making their way online, I figured I could share this fun piece of news,” the insider wrote. It’s been LONG overdue, but we’re finally getting the Wolverine we’ve always wanted.
CanWeGetSomeToast adds, “Comic fans REJOICE!!! Wolverine WILL wear the classic yellow and blue suit in Deadpool 3, mask included!” the scooper revealed. “The design is VERY similar to his comic suit from the 2003 run of Astonishing X-Men by [Joss] Whedon and [John] Cassady […] but with long sleeves. It looks FANTASTIC.”
Fans have been asking for the classic Wolverine costume since Jackman’s casting in Deadpool 3 was announced last year. There has been speculation that Deadpool 3 will be the last time that the actor will take on the role of Logan and many fans want to see the character don the comic book outfit. However, Jackman hasn’t announced a second retirement for his character yet.
Jackman previously said that 2017’s Logan would be his swansong for the character. It can be recalled that Weapon X died in the movie while trying to protect X-23. This signified the end of Wolverine in the Fox Marvel Universe. But, when the cast for Deadpool 3 was announced, Jackman explained that he is returning to the role since Deadpool 3 happens before Logan. The latter takes place in 2029 while the upcoming movie will be set in the current MCU timeline. Jackman said that it was important to him that Deadpool 3 would not mess with the timeline of Logan.
Unconfirmed rumors exist that more X-Men will be featured in the upcoming movie. Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, and James Marsden will reportedly reprise their roles as X-Men members Storm, Jean Grey, and Cyclops, respectively. Channing Tatum is also rumored to appear in Deadpool 3 as Gambit. A new leak also suggests that Jennifer Garner’s Elektra will be part of the movie alongside Ben Affleck’s Daredevil.
Patrick Stewart also previously teased that he is on “standby” for the movie. The actor also hinted that Ian McKellen’s Magneto may be coming to the MCU.
Deadpool 3 is arriving in theaters on May 4, 2024.
