Fans have been wondering if Zack Snyder would ever cross over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe now that his days as the DC Extended Universe’s overseer are long gone. The director revealed that he would love to do a project with Marvel and is particularly keen on adapting one story arc from the comic books.
Snyder is one of the chief architects behind the now-defunct DC Extended Universe. The filmmaker directed arguably the most popular DC movie in Justice League and its controversial director’s cut. Snyder is currently working on Rebel Moon, a new space action franchise inspired by Star Wars which is coming to Netflix later this year.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder was asked what DC and Marvel projects would he like to do. According to the director, he would want to make a film adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns if given the opportunity by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn. As for Marvel, Snyder says that he would be open to working on a movie featuring Daredevil and Elektra and perhaps adapt Frank Miller’s Elektra Lives Again.
The prospect of Snyder directing a Marvel movie sounds really exciting for fans of his work. However, the director made it clear that he would only be interested in doing that one particular project. “But that’s it,” Snyder said.
The director was also asked if he was open to working on a Star Wars movie. “Nah, I don’t think so,” Snyder said. In the meantime, the filmmaker is focused on creating a new universe with Rebel Moon. His new project started as a Star Wars film but later evolved into an entirely different film series after a series of setbacks with Lucasfilm.
While he isn’t active with DC, the director keeps in touch with the actors that were part of the cinematic universe. Snyder revealed that he occasionally talks to Ezra Miller and extends support to The Flash actor who is facing mental and legal challenges.
Snyder has also in touch with Ray Fisher who plays Cyborg in Justice League. Fisher is part of Rebel Moon, playing the role of an insurgent leader. The director also talked about the recent struggles of Aquaman star Amber Heard. “I just don’t get it,” Snyder shared. “If other people don’t like her, I don’t know what to say. I would work with her in a second.”
