Xbox’s Starfield, by Bethesda Game Studios, is one of the most anticipated games of the year. To give you an idea of just how big the game is, Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda Softworks via its parent company, ZeniMax Media, was motivated by fear of Sony paying Bethesda to make Starfield a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
If that doesn’t give you an idea of Starfield’s scale and the importance that Microsoft attaches to it, we don’t know what will.
Ahead of the game’s release this September, we can confirm that it will require a hefty chunk of your gadget’s storage space, be it your PC or your Xbox console. Starfield is a game of massive scale, and the storage size it will require reflects that.
This detail is courtesy of the official Xbox website, which provides details on the game, including its capabilities, languages supported, rating, and editions, among others, and it lists the game’s file size as a whopping 125 GB.
You can confirm this for yourself by heading over to the website. Click on the section tagged More and scroll down to “Additional info,” where you will find it in bold font.
With this size, Starfield is poised to be one of the largest games ever. Even then, it will still get larger. The game will undoubtedly receive updates and patches to fix whatever errors and glitches players encounter after the game’s launch – and this will inadvertently increase its storage requirements.
Touted as “Bethesda Game Studios’ biggest and most ambitious game,” Starfield will see you join a group of adventurers on an exploration of the galaxy. The game will feature over 1,000 distinct worlds you can explore and settle. You will also be able to build custom characters and determine the make and look of your spaceship.
Starfield will be available via early access on September 1 by midnight Eastern Daylight Time. But then, the existence of different time zones means that people in different parts of the world will have access to it at different hours of their day.
For example, players on the US West Coast will be able to play the game as early as 9 pm PDT, while players in the UK won’t be able to access it until 6 am BST.
A few days later, on September 6, Starfield will become available for everybody. The game is exclusive to the Xbox and PC, with PlayStation 5 owners set to miss out. Right now, you can pre-order the game. You can also pre-load it on your Xbox in anticipation of its launch in September.
