Morpheus plays a central role in the first three Matrix films. He was the one responsible for liberating Keanu Reeves' Neo, which is a pretty big deal. This is more so when you consider that the official synopsis for The Matrix Resurrections suggests that the fourth Matrix film will pick up from the events of the first Matrix film and not the other two sequels. This makes Morpheus' role in Resurrections even more important.
With that said, after the first trailer for The Matrix 4 dropped, fans couldn't help but wonder what Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's role was in the film. Was he a younger Morpheus? Or is his character's role similar to that of Morpheus in the original trilogy? Luckily, it didn't take too long for Abdul-Mateen II to end all speculation.
According to the Aquaman star, he'll be taking on the role of Morpheus, who was previously portrayed by Lawrence Fishburne.
